My Story...

This year, 2015, marks twenty years of being a kitchen designer. My career dream became reality in January of 1995 when I began my first job at a small Greensboro cabinet company. I was a recent graduate of East Carolina University’s interior design program and had very little experience. I had never been so scared in my life! Fortunately, I had an experienced designer to show me the ropes and help me learn the business. I am proud to say that I am still friends with my first client to this day!

After a year, I moved to a large Winston-Salem based company where I was able to hone my skills as a designer and learn how effective working on a creative team can be. The senior designers there had an amazing impact on me that I still carry with me to this day.

In 2001, I was fortunate enough to be able to begin my own company, The Kitchen Studio. Having 3-year-old and 9-month-old sons, I questioned my sanity on a daily basis while also living the dream of my life! With my supportive husband’s great help I was able to balance home and work life (and actually appear normal on the outside!).

Now, the proud mom of two teenagers, things have settled a bit. My husband and I actually get to spend time together without constant interruption. I work with an amazing team of designers who make me better every day. I have a beautiful showroom that reflects the work The Kitchen Studio creates, and I’m still living the dream. I thank God every day that I can come to work and be creative, imaginative, and have an impact on people’s lives in their kitchens. I love hearing kitchen stories and am so grateful it’s my life’s calling.
